Take This Course?
Even if you have never held a handgun, you will be able to
safely handle, shoot, clean, and store a semi-automatic pistol and revolver
after you complete this course. If you are already familiar with handguns,
the shooting skills section of this course can help you become a more
accurate, faster handgun marksman.
After successfully completing this course, you will receive a
certificate that you can use to apply for your
Colorado Concealed Handgun
permit.
This course is low-pressure, low-stress, and fun. It is very
'hands-on'. You can ask questions
at any time! The class size is a maximum of four persons to
ensure you get personalized, focused attention as your knowledge and
skills grow. You will never be asked to do anything that
you are uncomfortable doing. You learn at your pace.
Everything is provided in this class. Guns, ammunition, cleaning
supplies, and even eye and ear protection. You do not need to own a handgun to take this course. In fact, this
class teaches you how to choose your first handgun! Both semi-automatic
and revolver-type handguns are available for use while you are
taking the class. If you already own
a handgun, you are welcome to use it both in the classroom and during the range session.
Please Note: Absolutely NO live ammunition is allowed in the classroom at any time.
Course Description
The NRA Basic Pistol class teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and
attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely. This course is taught in two parts. Phase one is completed online at the student's own pace. Once the online portion is completed, a classroom and range session is scheduled with an instructor.
Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and
operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting
from the bench rest and two handed standing positions;
cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development.
Students will receive the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook when they register for the Phase I course at OnlineTraining.NRA.org.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be presented
with a certificate that can be used to apply for your
Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit.
Prerequisites - NRA Basic Pistol
Although there are no pre-requisites or age restrictions for the
course, a general minimum age suggestion would be 12 years old. This
may vary significantly depending upon the specific student's maturity
level and attention span.
